So Facebook Places finally launched in Ireland yesterday; about time considering the company runs it’s International Business from here!
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the service that. The US, the UK and other countries have enjoyed for some time now, Facebook Places adds geo coding to Status updates enabling mobile users to “Check In” at various locations and post and update, photo, video or link from that “Place”. All very well I hear you say but what does that mean for recruitment in Ireland? Off the top of my head I can think of two very important potentials:
1) Facebook Profiles are hard to crack because very few people open up their data for all to see but a good recruiter can infer a lot from where people check in. For instance, if you are trying to target financial staff in Dublin, you can infer that people who “Check In” at locations in the IFSC probably work in the finance sector. Better still, what about someone who reveals nothing on their public profile but checks in at the Ernst & Young offices every day? Care to guess where they work?
2) The possibilities of running location based promotions on your Facebook Page are endless. You can be sure that people will want to start using Places so why not target a demographic by incentivising them to Check In near your office, a location you can tie to your Company Page? Engagement drives relevant traffic to your Page and helps you build your talent communities.
