SocialTalent is our product, and we're upfront about that. But we don't inflate competitor weaknesses or hide our own limitations. Where a figure is practitioner-reported rather than vendor-published, it's labelled as an estimate. Pricing was last verified on 28 July 2026.
Seven alternatives follow, sorted by what their AI is pointed at: SocialTalent, Hireflix, Sapia.ai, BrightHire, Metaview, Paradox and Employ AI Interview Companion. Every one gets its real limitations written down, ours included. Two of the recommendations below send you somewhere other than us, and one tells you to stay where you are.
That last one belongs here rather than buried at the bottom. HireVue describes itself as a virtual interviewing and assessment provider, it is the only vendor on this page selling pre-hire assessment alongside the interview at that scale, and if assessment science across a global candidate population is what you actually bought then nothing below replaces it. Stay.
HireVue scores the candidate. SocialTalent coaches the interviewer.
Why teams look for HireVue alternatives
HireVue publishes no price. The site names "Essential to Premium packages," routes you to a demo or an ROI calculator, and offers no free tier and no rate card, so finding out what a shortlist candidate costs takes a discovery call. Some of what the market pays is knowable elsewhere, and Vendr puts the median annual HireVue contract at $20,900, with a range of $9,794 to $41,056, though that page carries no purchase count and is set to noindex, so read the median as directional rather than definitive. An anonymous Vendr community note from a buyer at a 201 to 1,000 employee company reports that HireVue's auto-renewal requires 60 days notice to opt out. Diary that the week you sign.
The second reason arrives as a question from someone who does not report to you, the morning your general counsel forwards a trade article and asks what exactly the AI is scoring. The history behind that question is public and it is long. The Electronic Privacy Information Center filed an FTC complaint on 6 November 2019 over facial analysis used to infer cognitive ability and emotional intelligence, then HireVue discontinued facial analysis around March 2020 and into early 2021, which Fortune reported was partly in response to the criticism, and an Illinois BIPA class action followed on 27 January 2022 in Cook County over facial geometry collected without BIPA-compliant consent. Then on 19 March 2025 the ACLU, the ACLU of Colorado, Public Justice and Eisenberg and Baum filed charges with the Colorado Civil Rights Division and the EEOC against Intuit and HireVue, on behalf of a Deaf, Indigenous complainant denied a promotion. The charge alleges violations of the ADA, Title VII and the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act, on the basis that automated speech analysis scores Deaf and hard-of-hearing and non-white speakers worse and that a request for human-generated captioning was refused. The matter is open. Investigatory phase, with no cause finding and no settlement as of July 2026, and a charge rather than a lawsuit whatever your inbox called it.
The review corpus supplies three more. Candidates abandon the async video: "There are people that do not like to put themselves out there on video and we have had people who would be great at a position not complete their application for this reason." Someone who would have been your best hire, closing the tab rather than recording answer three of six, is a cost that never reaches your dashboard. G2's theme counts put logouts and broken candidate links at six reviews, bugs during live interviews at five and integration glitches at four, and one reviewer summarised the lot as "I dislike the constant outages and bugs." Scheduling accounts for four more: "HireVue does not have the ability for admins to add in breaks when there are multiple back to back interviews." A coordinator booking six interviews in a row for a manager who then gets no gap between any of them is how a good panel turns bad by the fourth candidate.
One caveat, and it cuts against us. HireVue's 4.1 out of 5 across 255 reviews is the lowest rating among the major interview platforms, but that corpus is noisy in both directions, because a meaningful share of it is legacy Modern Hire and Montage reviews migrated onto the listing after those acquisitions, while some recent five-star reviews are written by candidates praising the practice feature rather than by buyers. Read the themes, not the aggregate. Our longer product comparison is at SocialTalent vs HireVue.
What changed at HireVue in 2026
On 10 March 2026 HireVue announced the acquisition of Hireguide's technology, which covers agentic AI and a voice-based AI Interviewer. The team was absorbed. That expands the AI-interviewing surface, and it points somewhere worth noticing if compliance is why you are here: HireVue is moving further into AI-led candidate evaluation, not away from it.
The rest matters less than a demo will suggest. The Modern Hire acquisition closed on 3 May 2023 and is still visible in the product and the reviews. Carlyle-backed since 2019. Jeremy Friedman has led since January 2024.
On security, HireVue holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 and covers GDPR, and it claims to be the only virtual interviewing and assessment provider with FedRAMP certification, which is a vendor claim we have not verified. If FedRAMP is a hard requirement, ask for the authorisation package rather than the marketing line.
Five reasons above to leave, then. Four to stay. An assessment library nothing on this page replaces. A scale record across more than 700 major customers. SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001. And a product surface that widened in March 2026 rather than narrowed. None of them answers the question your general counsel asked, so put three things in writing before you renew. What does the AI score, and against what model? What are the retention and export terms for your interview archive when the contract ends? Does the Hireguide voice interviewer change your Annex III position? These are diligence questions, not accusations. If the answers are good you have re-signed with confidence.
The question that sorts every alternative: what is the AI evaluating?
Procurement's first question about a hiring AI is what the model is pointed at, because the answer decides which regulations land on you. Three answers exist.
Some tools score the candidate, in that HireVue, Sapia.ai and BrightHire's Screen module each produce a rating or a rank about a named applicant, which puts them inside EU AI Act Annex III high-risk scope and inside the Local Law 144 definition of an automated employment decision tool. Others document the conversation, Metaview and Hireflix among them. They capture what was said without producing an automated decision, and generally sit outside both. One category evaluates the interviewer instead, and that is where we sit, because the subject of the assessment is the employee running the interview rather than the person applying for the job.
Here is where each vendor falls, on the same classification we use on every comparison page we publish. Paradox is omitted because we could not verify its position.
| Vendor | Scores candidates? | Likely EU AI Act Annex III high-risk? | Likely NYC LL144 AEDT? |
|---|---|---|---|
| SocialTalent (Cara) | No, evaluates interviewers | No | No |
| Employ AI Interview Companion | No, explicitly disclaimed | No | No |
| Hireflix | No, no AI decisioning at all | No | No |
| BrightHire | Screen scores against rubrics | Likely, for Screen | Likely, for Screen |
| Metaview | No scoring; Application Review reviews applications | Depends on Application Review use | Possibly |
| HireVue | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Sapia.ai | Yes, scores and ranks | Yes | Yes |
Two caveats on that table. The first: Local Law 144's obligation sits on the employer, not the vendor, so nobody sells you compliance, and no vendor here publishes an LL144 audit summary anyway, so what a vendor's design changes is only how much work the obligation is.
The second is timing, which is unstable as we write this. The European Parliament approved the Digital Omnibus on 16 June 2026, which would move the high-risk employment obligations covering hiring, promotion and termination from 2 August 2026 out to 2 December 2027, a postponement of sixteen months. As at 28 July 2026 it had not appeared in the Official Journal. Until it does, 2 August 2026 is the date written into law, so a contract signed in the wrong week is governed by whichever version won that race. Re-check where it landed on the morning you sign.
Illinois AIVIA applies to video interviews with AI analysis, which makes it relevant to HireVue. Hireflix performs no AI analysis and is likely out of scope, and Sapia is text-based.
How we evaluated these alternatives
Five criteria, named before the list so you can disagree with them.
- Published pricing. Is there a number on a public page?
- What it evaluates: candidate, conversation or interviewer. This is second rather than last because it determines your Annex III and LL144 position.
- Does feedback connect to training? Does the tool report the problem, or close it?
- Compliance posture. Certifications, bias audits, data handling, and whether the vendor has an open regulatory matter.
- Enterprise readiness. ATS depth, SOC 2, permissioning granular enough to hide an interviewer's coaching signals from their own manager, and a track record above 10,000 employees.
Two capabilities were deliberately left out, because interview question generation and feedback chasing are both free inside Greenhouse and largely free elsewhere, so scoring either as a differentiator would be selling against zero.
The 7 best HireVue alternatives
1. SocialTalent, best when the problem is interviewer capability, not screening throughput
Our list, so we go first. Here is the honest version.
Cara, our AI hiring assistant, evaluates interviewers rather than candidates, and that design choice has a cost attached: Cara will never rank your shortlist and will never tell you who to hire, and in exchange we sit outside Annex III and outside AEDT scope, because nothing we produce feeds an automated decision about an applicant. A summary never transcribes the biasing question. It is left out there and delivered privately to the interviewer instead, so no manager opens a report that says they asked an illegal question in front of their director, and you should ask every vendor here, in writing, who can see an interviewer's coaching signals.
Three pieces do the work. A planner before the call, an assistant inside it in Teams or Zoom, and analytics afterwards.
Those analytics name behaviour rather than categories. A hiring manager who spent thirty of a forty-five minute panel describing the roadmap. An interviewer who used the same closing question on four candidates and asked none of them a probing follow-up. A panel where two people scored the same competency four points apart and neither quoted the candidate. Each maps to the micro-lesson that fixes it, through our certification paths: Licensed To Hire, Advanced, Licensed Interviewer. Our own post-training survey has 95% of hiring managers reporting better decisions and 98% feeling more prepared on bias. Our numbers, not an audit. Integrations include Avature, Greenhouse, Workday and SAP SuccessFactors. Detail at interview intelligence and agents.
What to consider, honestly:
- No asynchronous video interviewing. If that is your core HireVue use case, you want the Hireflix entry below.
- No pre-hire assessments. HireVue has them, and nothing we ship substitutes for an assessment library.
- Built for enterprise. Below roughly 500 hires a year this is more capability than a team will switch on.
- The 5,000-interview minimum is a hard floor. Small teams should not buy us.
We charge €0.99 per interview with a minimum purchase of 5,000, a floor of roughly €4,950, and every user is included, which is the part that matters at enterprise volume, because every other model here charges by the head, so a hiring manager who sits in on four interviews a quarter costs what a recruiter living in the product costs. Detail on the pricing page, last verified 28 July 2026.
2. Hireflix, best for async video with a price on the page
This one costs us revenue. If you are leaving HireVue over price and one-way async video is what you actually need, buy Hireflix, not us. You will pay $75 a month under 50 employees or $150 a month from 50 to 250, billed yearly, and be running interviews the same afternoon instead of signing a five-figure commitment for capability you will never switch on.
Every tier includes unlimited seats, positions, responses and features, with nothing gated behind a higher one. Candidates need no app and no login, they hold GDPR and SOC 2, they ship SSO, audit logs and automatic candidate-video deletion as standard, and they paid for a third-party accessibility audit by TestPros, which nobody at this price does. No scoring, no ranking, so neither Annex III nor AEDT scope reaches them.
What to consider:
- One-way video only. No live interview intelligence, no coaching, nothing that touches the quality of the conversations your managers are actually having.
- Invitation emails landing in spam, Outlook especially, is the most reported complaint at three reviews, and reviewers also report no candidate tagging after review and no way to edit candidate details once the link has gone out.
- Hireflix carries 5.0 out of 5 on G2 across 434 reviews and 5.0 on Capterra across 251. A distribution that clean at that volume is unusual, so read the gripes above as the complete public record rather than a representative sample of it.
3. Sapia.ai, best for 500+ hires a year in retail, hospitality and frontline
Start with the warning, because it is the most useful sentence on this page. If you are leaving HireVue over compliance, Sapia.ai is not the escape route. It scores and ranks candidates, so it carries exactly the same Annex III and Local Law 144 exposure you are trying to get away from. Changing vendor inside the same regulatory category changes your paperwork, not your obligations.
Sapia is a good product for one shape of hiring. It runs a structured text interview through its "Phai" conversational AI, so nobody goes on camera, which removes the camera-comfort and accent problems behind a lot of HireVue drop-off. Rejected candidates get feedback too. The company is Melbourne-based and independent, formerly PredictiveHire, and has raised nothing since a US$17M Series A in November 2022, it is built for companies hiring more than 500 people a year, and the customer list runs to ANZ and UK retail and transport: Woolworths, Qantas, LNER and BT Group. US presence is thin.
What to consider:
- Scoring accuracy dominates the complaints, in 13 reviews, with AI inefficiency in scoring in seven more, and one reviewer puts it like this: "I feel the grading can be a little wrong at times, i have had candidates who have passed but were marked as no due to something simple like grammar or slang words."
- Candidates get marked down for spelling and dialect. Klaudia K., December 2025: "It can be marked down a lot due to spelling mistakes, which is frustrating."
- The freshest theme is false AI-detection flags. chris w., December 2025: "candidates just out of higher education have their scores flagged as AI detected because the system misinterprets their learned writing style."
- A 1.0 out of 5 review from an enterprise customer on 8 January 2026 raises dyslexia and accessibility. That is a customer review, not a legal filing, but put it to their team.
- Priced per hire against your expected annual volume, with no rate card and no free tier, on a pricing page that carries a noindex tag and was last modified in June 2023.
4. BrightHire, best for interview oversight in a Zoom-native organisation
BrightHire became a Zoom company in December 2025, on a deal announced 13 November 2025, and now runs as a standalone brand inside Zoom, where it scores 4.8 on G2 across roughly 120 reviews, holds SOC 2 Type II with GDPR and CCPA cover, runs an annual third-party bias audit, and its June 2026 Candidate Fraud Detection reads Zoom's own video signals in a way nothing else here can.
What to consider:
- No published pricing. Three tiers plus BrightHire Screen, all behind a demo request, with no free tier, which is the problem you are leaving HireVue over.
- Vendr's median annual contract is $18,350 across 54 purchases, with a range of $7,000 to $46,580, on a page updated February 2026. The number to carry into a negotiation is the overage, at $5 to $20 per interview above your contracted tier. Our entire all-in rate is €0.99 per interview, in euro against their dollar with no conversion applied, so their penalty for going over runs to roughly five to twenty times our full price.
- BrightHire Screen is an async voice or video AI interviewer that scores candidates against custom rubrics, so that module carries the same regulatory profile as HireVue. Switching Screen on does not move you out of scope.
- No connected training library and no interviewer certification. The coaching tips agent tells an interviewer what happened; nothing walks them through fixing it.
- Reported complaints run to transcription accuracy on non-English speech and technical jargon, delayed analysis turnaround, rigidity in templates, and analytics that capture well but do not convert into action.
5. Metaview, best if you only ever wanted the notes
If what you used HireVue for was really just a record of the conversation, Metaview is the cleanest and cheapest swap here. Notetaker is genuinely free at 25 calls a month, Notetaker Pro is $60 per user per month, Enterprise is custom, there are more than 40 ATS integrations including Greenhouse, Ashby, Lever, Workday and Bullhorn, and a $35M Series B led by GV closed on 25 June 2025. Total raised is $50M.
The problem is where the company is going rather than what it does today. Across 2025 and 2026 Metaview repositioned from "AI interview notes" to an "Agentic Recruiting Platform," and you can watch it happen on their own pricing page, where sourcing is now the default tab and Notetaker has been demoted to third. Their newest product, fillmore, is an autonomous outbound recruiting agent that sources and books screening calls by itself. It was waitlist-only as of July 2026.
What to consider:
- One 0.5 out of 5 review, dated 7 July 2026, does more damage than anything else here. Arsen I., a senior full-stack developer: "The API just seems like it doesn't exist as a class. We want to integrate deeply with Metaview, but there's no API. Also, we can't get access to all our historical data from the very beginning." Still unaddressed.
- Six or more reviews raise non-English accuracy. Kimberly B.: "It mixes up languages. When I do interviews in German, it gives me my interview notes in English."
- Colleen M., a Director of TA, reports summaries generic enough to need rewriting against internal criteria before they are usable. G2's own dislike counters put ATS integration issues at seven.
- No async video at all, so it does not replace the HireVue workflow you are probably running.
6. Paradox, best for hourly and frontline coordination at volume
Paradox is not really a HireVue alternative but a different layer, and saying so is more useful than pretending otherwise. Olivia handles SMS and chat screening, scheduling and onboarding coordination in more than 100 languages, with deep HRIS and ATS integration, for customers including McDonald's, Chipotle, GM and 7-Eleven. If your HireVue use case is transactional volume hiring, Paradox may replace the workflow around the interview without replacing the interview itself. Workday completed its acquisition on 1 October 2025 for $1.0bn in cash, and Paradox is now sold as the Workday Paradox Candidate Experience Agent.
What to consider:
- Enterprise pricing with no self-serve tier, so this is another vendor you cannot cost without a call.
- Poor fit for skilled and technical roles, where the interview itself carries the decision rather than the coordination around it.
- Chipotle 75% faster hiring and GM $2M saved annually are vendor-reported figures, not audited ones.
- Nothing in the product observes or improves what happens inside the conversation.
7. Employ AI Interview Companion, best for teams on Lever, Jobvite or JazzHR
The most interesting thing on Employ's page is a disclaimer: "AI Interview Companion assists with transcription and summarization. It does not provide candidate scoring or hiring recommendations." That is deliberate regulatory positioning, and the same instinct sits behind our own design. Employ Inc. owns JazzHR, Lever, Jobvite and NXTThing RPO, remains a K1 Investment Management portfolio company as of July 2026, and acquired Pillar in a deal that closed on 2 March 2025 and was announced on 5 March 2025. If you are already on Lever, Jobvite or JazzHR, the Companion sits inside the ATS you already run.
What to consider:
- Employ said at acquisition that Pillar would remain and stay on sale standalone. It has not: pillar.hr redirects to employinc.com, and what shipped is an ATS-embedded companion.
- Thin outside the Employ stack. On Greenhouse or Workday, this is not for you.
- Employ's G2 listing is contaminated. Its 2025 and 2026 reviews are demonstrably about a different, candidate-side interview preparation tool that generates code for technical questions, so we have not quoted the aggregate.
- Genuine Pillar-era reviews from 2022 to 2024 report note accuracy, recording reliability and search across past interviews. Courtney R.: "the notes you get can be a little off. The AI needs to be fine tuned a bit more."
- No verifiable customers. The testimonials are first-name and last-initial, and they are about Jobvite, Lever or JazzHR.
- Nothing published on price. Any figure still circulating for Pillar predates the acquisition.
HireVue alternatives compared on price and fit
Each vendor is quoted in the currency it publishes in, with no conversion applied, and pricing was last verified on 28 July 2026. Five of the eight publish no rate you can read without booking a call: HireVue, Sapia.ai, BrightHire, Paradox and Employ. That is itself one of the more useful findings here.
| Tool | Starting price | Pricing model | Evaluates | Annex III / LL144 | Best for | Free tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| HireVue | Not published (Vendr median $20,900) | Essential to Premium packages, demo-gated | The candidate | In scope for both | Structured video and assessment at Fortune 100 scale | No |
| SocialTalent | €0.99 per interview, minimum 5,000 | Per interview, unlimited users | The interviewer | Outside both | Enterprise teams with uneven interview quality | No |
| Hireflix | $75/mo under 50 employees, $150/mo at 50 to 250 | Flat, per company, unlimited seats | Nothing, no AI decisioning | Outside both | Async video with a published price | One month free trial |
| Sapia.ai | No published rate card | Per hire, quoted on annual volume | The candidate, scores and ranks | In scope for both | 500+ hires a year, frontline and retail | No |
| BrightHire | Not published (Vendr median $18,350) | Seats plus interview volume, demo-gated | The conversation; Screen scores | Likely in scope for Screen | Interview oversight in a Zoom-native org | No |
| Metaview | Free, then $60/user/mo (Notetaker Pro) | Per user, per agent | The conversation | Depends on Application Review use | Teams whose real pain is note taking | Yes, 25 calls a month |
| Paradox (Workday) | Not published | Enterprise, no self-serve tier | Not classified here | Not classified here | Hourly and frontline coordination | No |
| Employ AI Interview Companion | Not published | Demo-gated, ATS-embedded | The conversation, scoring disclaimed | Outside both | Existing Lever, Jobvite or JazzHR customers | No |
Both medians come from Vendr's aggregated contract data rather than from either vendor. BrightHire's is drawn from 54 purchases on a page updated February 2026; HireVue's page states no purchase count.
What each of these tools actually does
Capability by capability, with "not published" where a vendor documents nothing rather than where we assume a gap, and the two rows HireVue wins outright in bold, both of which are rows we cannot compete on.

How to choose: start from why you're leaving
You are not choosing between HireVue and one replacement. You are choosing between HireVue plus whatever you already spend on interviewer training plus the enablement person who chases hiring managers to finish the modules, against a shorter list of line items that covers more of it. Price both before you compare anything.
The arithmetic, with every assumption named. Assume 5,000 interviews over a twelve month term and 60 people who need access: 12 recruiters and 48 hiring managers. SocialTalent bills €4,950, because €0.99 per interview at the 5,000 minimum is the whole invoice and those 60 users are free. HireVue publishes no rate. Vendr's median annual contract is $20,900, in dollars against our euro, unconverted, as at 28 July 2026.
Then route by your reason. Price plus async video, Hireflix. Compliance, and check what the replacement evaluates, because Sapia.ai and BrightHire Screen sit where HireVue sits. Drop-off, go text or live. Notes, Metaview. Hourly volume, Paradox. Uneven managers, us. Assessment science, and you are not shopping for an alternative at all. You are shopping for a second vendor.
Frequently asked questions
How much does HireVue cost?
HireVue publishes no pricing. Its site names only "Essential to Premium packages" and routes to a demo or an ROI calculator, with no free tier and no rate card. Vendr, which aggregates anonymised contract data, puts the median annual HireVue contract at $20,900 with a range of $9,794 to $41,056 across three listed products, though that page carries no purchase count and is set to noindex, so treat the median as directional. Older third-party aggregator estimates of around $35,000 a year plus $15,000 to $40,000 implementation are practitioner-reported rather than vendor-published. One procurement note from a Vendr community post by a buyer at a 201 to 1,000 employee company: HireVue's auto-renewal terms require 60 days notice to opt out.
What is the cheapest HireVue alternative?
Hireflix, at $75 a month under 50 employees and $150 a month from 50 to 250, with unlimited seats, positions and responses and no feature gating between tiers. Metaview's Notetaker is the only permanent free tier on this page, at 25 calls a month. Neither does pre-hire assessment and neither scores candidates, so cheapest and closest substitute are different questions with different answers.
Why do companies switch away from HireVue?
Five reasons recur. There is no published pricing. There is a long public compliance history, including an EEOC and Colorado Civil Rights Division charge filed on 19 March 2025 that remains in its investigatory phase with no cause finding. Candidates drop out of async video, which one G2 reviewer described as people who "would be great at a position not complete their application for this reason." Reliability complaints cover logouts and broken candidate links across six reviews, with bugs during live interviews in five more. And scheduling gaps come up in four, including an inability for admins to add breaks between back to back interviews.
Is HireVue compliant with NYC Local Law 144?
That is the wrong question, and getting it wrong is expensive. Local Law 144's obligation sits on the employer or employment agency, not on the vendor, so no purchase makes you compliant by itself. HireVue scores candidates, which places it inside the law's definition of an automated employment decision tool, so if you deploy it in New York City you are the one who owes an annual independent bias audit with a publicly posted summary. HireVue publishes an AI Explainability Statement. It does not publish an LL144 audit summary, and neither does any other vendor on this page.
Is there a free alternative to HireVue?
Metaview's Notetaker is free at 25 calls a month permanently, and Hireflix offers a one-month free trial rather than a free tier. Neither replaces async video screening with assessment attached, which is what most HireVue contracts are actually paying for, so a free tier will cover a note-taking use case and will not cover a volume-screening one.
What is the best HireVue alternative for small teams?
Hireflix, on price and on shape. It is $75 a month under 50 employees with every feature included and no seats to count, and it was built for teams that size rather than scaled down to them. We are the wrong answer at that size: our minimum purchase is 5,000 interviews, which puts the floor around €4,950, and below roughly 500 hires a year most teams would not switch on what they had bought.
Try it before anyone asks you for a purchase order
HireVue evaluates who you hire. SocialTalent evaluates who does the hiring.
You can watch Cara plan an interview and read back what happened in it before anyone asks for your budget holder's name.
The rate is published rather than quoted: €0.99 per interview, minimum purchase 5,000, every user included, verified 28 July 2026.
